THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The humiliating defeat of the party in the recent local body polls has erupted a rebellion in Congress. Senior leaders have raised the demand for a change in leadership. Former minister and senior Congress leader T H Musthafa has said that Ramesh Chennithala is a failure and he should resign. He also demanded that Oommen Chandy be appointed as the opposition leader.
Kasargod MP Rajmohan Unnithan has also lashed out at KPCC leadership. Unnithan has also demanded that Mullappally should resign if he has honestly taken the responsibility for the party’s poor show in the elections. The Kasargod MP has alleged that Mullappally has taken responsibility on his shoulders in order to save the other ‘co-accused.’
Meanwhile, the Muslim League’s statement that Congress is responsible for UDF’s defeat in the elections has pushed the right front to another crisis. Even though League has not made any huge advances in their strongholds, Congress has witnessed severe vote loss in all areas. The party had no organisation machinery to prevent the massive vote loss. League’s leadership is also of the opinion that the infighting between leaders was also responsible for the poor performance of Congress.
Meanwhile, RSP has also resonated its stand. The general feeling among RSP’s leaders is not to continue in UDF like this. The Kollam based party has demanded that more popular leaders should join Congress.
