KOCHI: Union minister V Muraleedharan has openly supported BJP’s workers act of hoisting the flex which read, ‘Jai Sreeram.’ “It is not a crime for BJP workers to raise such flex while celebrating victory,” he said. Sreeram is a symbol which stands across the confinements of religion and caste. “Those who allege that the flex was raised to transmit communal enmity are the ones who are actually working to create communal tensions in the state. Nobody has said that raising Jai Sreeram slogan is a crime in this country,” he added.
Criticising the worker’s act senior leader Radhakrishna Menon has issued a statement on Saturday morning. The union minister’s response comes in the wake of this. Condemn from several quarters were registered against the act of BJP workers installing a flex which read ‘Jai Sreeram’ in front of the municipality building in Palakkad, they did this as a part of celebrating BJP’s victory in the district. CPM, Congress and other political parties in the state, officials including the municipality secretary has filed complaints before the police on the incident.
Police have registered a case on the complaint of municipality secretary. The case was registered only on the charge of hanging the Jai Sreeram flex in front of the municipality building and only bailable charges were imposed against the accused. BJP councillors and poling agents will be framed under the case. Police have informed that even though the accused were identified, the charge sheet will be prepared only after collecting the required evidence.
