THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Writer and lawyer KM Anthru (83) passed away at his residence in Eenchakkal om Saturday morning. His funeral took place at the Vallakkadavu Juma Masjid.
Born on April 2, 1937, Anthru began writing short stories and essays at a very young age. His first story 'Pathiriyum Irachiyum' was published in 1957. After his education at Maharaja's College, he worked in the Pune Defense Accounts Office, the Pension Pay Master's Office in Thiruvananthapuram and the Southern Railway. He was the Zonal President of the All India Station Masters' Association. After retiring, he practised law.
His first book 'Pullikkuyilum Panineerppoovum Oru Snehabandhavum' was released in 2004. His other story collections include 'Nyayadhipanum Ottakavum', 'Dhoorakkazhchakal', 'Vaazhakkula' and 'Padmasree'. In 2014, he received the Narma Kairali Award and in 2015 he received the Govind Rachana Award from the Navarasam Sangeet Sabha. Anthru is survived by wife Jameelabeevi. daughter Chandini and son Shaajil Anthru.
