ALUVA: Hindu youth who married Muslim lover, got thrashed by her relatives demanding to change his religion. The victim, 27-year-old Abhinand and his 48-year-old-mother Lekha, wife of Murugan from Pallathu in Thoppumpadi were admitted to Aluva Karottukuzhi hospital with serious injuries.
The incident happened by 7 pm on Friday evening. The relatives of his wife demanded he should either accept Islam or sign the divorce papers. The couples had got married three years ago as per Hindu customs. Both of them got involved in the relationship when they were working in a private firm at Perumbavoor. Later after registering their marriage, they also got married as per Hindu customs at Elamakkara temple. The girl stayed with Abhijith for about one and a half year. In between this, the girl’s relatives made attempts to take her back several times but they were not successful. Another incident also happened in which the girl tried to escape from the custody of her relatives in Malappuram.
The girl who was taken back by her relatives to Malappuram about one and a health years ago was continuing her relationship with her husband via phone. A group of 11 people including the girl’s mother and sister reached Abhijith’s home when the purported incident took place. As it was a friendly talk, Abhijith’s mother Lekha, called her son via phone and summoned him. Lekha said that on Abhijith entering home, the girl’s uncle, Ijaz attacked him. In the skirmish that ensued, Lekha fell down and broke her right hand. Aluva police which reached the site following the skirmish took Ijaz under custody.
