KOZHIKODE: The community medicine department of Kozhikode medical college submitted preliminary study report on the transmission of the pandemic in the district. The report says the rapid spread of the bacteria which causes the disease happened through water. However the study team is still clueless about how the Shigella bacteria reached the area.
Whereas, the number of patients who has symptoms of Shigella has crossed 50. In Kottamparambu, a 11-year-old boy has earlier died after getting the disease. The health department has given an alert message to the people in the district. The current preventive measures are based on health workers visiting individually to every household.
120 wells in the area were subjected to super chlorination. The bacteria which cause the disease comes into contact with water from human faeces. Therefore health experts opine that personal hygiene is essential to prevent the disease. The disease could rapidly spread through mere contact with the infected person.
