THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Railway is planning to introduce additional trains in various routes as per passengers' demand. Passengers will be divided into two trains, that will operate one after the other. Passengers need not be worried about waiting lists and there will be no extra charge for this. There won't be any need of higher-priced tickets like Tatkal and Premium Tatkal.
The reform comes as the railways implement a new development plan next year. At present, there are 880 crore passengers per year. With the new system, it is expected to increase to 1220 crore.
The National Railway Plan proposes to make the railways more profitable and popular. The draft has been released. Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav said that it will be included in the next budget after discussion.
Currently, 90% of bookings are online. Ticket sales have been fully digitized. There is also a facility to know the rush including the passenger train. 1089 special trains run every year. Statistics about the sales of emergency tickets such as Tatkal are also available. The new system will be implemented using artificial intelligence technology incorporating all these data.
