KASARAGOD: During the swearing-in ceremony of the new panchayat members, a conflict broke out as a BJP member raised 'Jai Shriram' slogan followed by the Youth League activists calling out 'Allahu Akbar'. The incident took place during the swearing-in ceremony of the members of Mangalpady panchayat in Kasargod's Manjeswaram constituency.
Tensions erupted in the area when the Youth League members chanted 'Allahu Akbar' to protest the BJP member's action. Muslim League constituency president TA Moosa then intervened and pacified the activists and the swearing-in ceremony resumed.
The League's Mangalpady Panchayat Committee has lodged a complaint with the returning officer. The league said in its complaint that chanting Jai Shriram during swearing-in was unconstitutional and that strict action should be taken to prevent a recurrence of such acts.
Kishore Kumar B, a BJP member and the panchayat general secretary of Yuva Morcha, who won from Adukka, 17th ward of Mangalpadi Grama Panchayat, took oath in the name of God. Soon after the swearing-in, Kishore called out 'Jai Shriram' through the mic. BJP members who came after Kishore Kumar took oath in the name of God.
