KOLKATA: The BJP, which recently welcomed popular Bengal leader Suvendhu Adhikari into the party, has received a major setback with the release of an old video footage that shows Adhikari accepting a bribe.
In 2016, video footage of Suvendu Adhikari and Mukul Roy taking bribes was released by BJP on its official YouTube channel. These visuals are now going viral on social media. With this, the BJP has found itself on the defensive. The BJP used the video as a weapon against the Trinamool Congress.
Trinamool leaders and a senior police official were seen receiving money in return for illegally aiding a company. Now, this video has become a new headache for the BJP. Suvendu joined the BJP the other day. It was after this that the visuals of him taking bribes became viral on social media.
Meanwhile, Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra criticized the BJP over the incident. Mahua also tweeted a screenshot showing that the video has been removed from the BJP's YouTube channel.
