Free treatment for children at famed Sree Chithra Institute in Thiruvananthapuram has been stopped in the name of reimbursement for Medical bills.
If this is completely true, this a cruel condemnable act.
Such an action should not have happened at a centre, which is one of the most famous treatment centres in the country.
Getting reimbursed money is necessary for the existence of an institution.
The dispute that erupted between Sree Chitra and the National Health Mission over the issue of reimbursement can be resolved through discussion. It is said that the treatment was discontinued due reimbursement overdue.
It is said that Sree Chithra is yet to get Rs 20 crore from the Centre towards the reimbursed amount.
There was also some dispute over this. According to the National Health Mission, the medical bills submitted by Sree Chitra are forged to make it big and fat and this the reason for withholding the bills. However the truth behind this is not known.
Though Sree Chthra is an autonomous body, the State government has the right to interfere in it as the state government also provides funds for the institution.
Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) is an initiative by the Centre aiming at early identification and intervention for children from birth to 18 years to cover 4 'D's viz. Defects at birth, Deficiencies, Diseases, Development delays including disability.
Free treatment at Sree Chithra also comes under this scheme.
Even the most complicated heart surgeries are performed under this.
Thousands of children have got the benefit of this. The reimbursed amount to Sree Chithra is paid by RBSK.
It is a real challenge to implement and keep going free treatment schemes.
It is the people in the lowest strata of society who have to bear the brunt whenever some treatment scheme is stopped.
Karunya scheme was withdrawn with the announcement that better treatment scheme would come into existence.
But finally it didn’t materials and the Karunya also was discontinued.
For commoners some such scheme is necessary at a time when the treatment cost is skyrocketing.
The insurance proposed for government employees and pensioners are still on paper.
The road block was caused by the decision of the reliance to withdraw from the scheme.
Attempts are going on for a year for a new scheme. In this times of pandemic and new diseases, medical treatment is a real challenge. And such disputes and arguments in Sree Chithra have occurred in the midst of all this.
The victims here are small children. Just remember that.
