THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has taken a firm stance to present a resolution against the farm laws passed by the central government despite the governor's refusal to give permission for a special assembly session on Wednesday. The government has now decided to present the resolution in the Assembly session starting January 8.

The Leader of the Opposition asked Parliamentary Affairs Minister AK Balan to convene an assembly of MLAs in the Sankaranarayanan Thampi Members' Lounge and pass a resolution against the Central Act in the absence of the governor's permission. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had sent a letter to the Governor after he denied permission to convene a special Assembly session.

In the letter, the Chief Minister pointed out that the governor has no power to reject the recommendation of the government with a clear majority in the Assembly and that the governor has no discretion in calling the Assembly.

The CM said in the letter that the governor's claim that there was no emergency was false and that the agitation by farmers in different parts of the country had grown to its current magnitude in the last few days. The Chief Minister said in the letter that Kerala, which is dependent on other states for food, is deeply concerned about the problems faced by the farming community and the agricultural sector.
