POTHENCODE: A major gang which prints and circulates counterfeit currency came under police net laid down by Attingal DYSP and Varkala police.

The police officials said that the probe is going on and certain others who are under observation might also get arrested. On Monday, at Varkala Papnasham beach two were arrested for changing the counterfeit currency. Details on more people from the gang were received after they were questioned in the secret centre of the police.

Following this, Aashiq Thonackkal, a youth who does charity work based on Thonackkal near Mangalapuram was arrested after the investigation carried out by a special police team. He was staying at a rented home with a woman and his mother since the last one and a half month. The Varkala police who visited along with him at his rented home in Kattayikonam seized counterfeit currency worth Rs five lakh worth and the instruments used for making them. He also had special instruments to take the colour print of the counterfeit notes. Counterfeit notes of 200, 500 and 2,000 were confiscated from his home. The police also said that they have information about more people are involved in the case and soon they will come under police net.
