THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Jomon Puthenpurackal who led the legal fight in Abhaya murder case said Sister Abhaya has got hundred percent justice. While talking to the media after the two accused Fr Thomas Kottoor and Sister Sephy were sentenced to life, he said that he expresses gratitude to former chief justice K G Balakrishnan.
He said, ‘Today is K Karunakaran’s tenth death anniversary and it was he, the then chief minister, who left this case to the CBI. It is quite coincidental that the quantum of sentence was delivered on this day. There is a divine power for both Abhaya case and Abhaya. I would not have been able to intervene in this case if the Supreme Court had not quashed the order passed by high court judge Ramkumar in 2008 saying 23 things just before the arrest of the accused ordering that I have no right to intervene in this case. If it wasn’t quashed, then I could not have fought or get the accused arrested or stand with the CBI. The judgment was quashed by the then Supreme Court Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan. The Supreme Court quashed the order asserting that I could not intervene in the Abhaya case, on May 3, 2010. I express my sincere gratitude to him,’ he said.
