KOZHIKODE: League’s leadership has said that party leader P K Kunhalikutty will resign from the post of Lok Sabha MP. He is resigning from the MP post to devote more time in state politics. He will contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Presently he represents Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency. League leadership has said that he will resign in such a way so that the Lok Sabha by-polls could be carried out along with the assembly polls. The measure is intended to strengthen the party in the state.
The crucial decision was taken in the party’s working committee meeting held on Wednesday. In the recently held local body polls, even though UDF faced a major setback, League was able to put out a good show. The party leadership thinks that it happened due to the efficient leadership of P K Kunhalikutty and it asked him to contest and lead the party in the upcoming assembly polls. The league leadership also informed that Kunhalikutty will function by coordinating political activities from Thiruvananthapuram.
BJP responded that the present move of League is purely based on the quest for power. BJP state president K Surendran said that it is nothing more than an irresponsible act.
