KOCHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has informed the court that more than Rs 100 crore was transferred to the Popular Front's account from December 2019 to February 2020. The agency informed the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court that it received information regarding this during the interrogation of Campus Front National General Secretary Rauf Sharif. It also said that it was Rauf Sharif who sent Siddique Kappan, a journalist arrested in UP, to Hathras. Considering the ED's application, the court extended the custody of Sharif for three more days.
According to the ED, the money that arrived in the account was suspected to have been used for the anti-CAA strike. It remains to be seen who invested this money. The ED also told the court that there was an attempt to start a riot in Hathras.
Meanwhile, Rauf Sharif told the court that the money came from his export firm in Oman. Rauf also alleged that the investigation team was mentally torturing him. Following this, the court directed the ED not to torture the accused physically and mentally.
