Even though Father Thomas M Kottur and Sister Steffi was given life imprisonment by the court in the Abhaya murder case, the case is still marred with several unanswered questions. About 12 years ago another news which said that Abhaya was allegedly raped before the murder was out. The news reported by Sreejan Balakrishnan later became detrimental in the reinvestigation of the case.

The news report reiterated the fact those who are influential will try to sabotage the case through any means. The court which was gearing up to lead CBI in the right track also got a commanding stick with the news report. Sreejan in his Facebook post has said that when he looks back, he thinks that he had discharged an important responsibility by reporting that crucial development.

The CBI which was leaving no stone unturned to prove that it was a clear case of murder, despite the mounting pressure on probe officials to create a suicide narrative, was not interested to add the ‘rape’ angle to the case. Abhaya’s parents also denied the ground of sexual assault, as for them it would be unbearable to know that their only child who was brutally murdered 15 years ago also underwent through another insulting ordeal. Sreejan in his Facebook post has said that he still remembers Abhaya’s father words who talked with helplessness. He has said in detail about every development in the case, including the CBI questioning him over reporting the news.
