THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After the death of her husband, the wife who tried to commit suicide with him when officials came to implement a court order to evacuate them, succumbed to her injuries. Rajan's wife Ambili, a native of Neyyattinkara, is the deceased. Rajan, who suffered major burns, succumbed to his injuries this morning.

Rajan and his wife Ambili set them ablaze during an evacuation process in a disputed land in Neyyattinkara. Both died at the Medical College Hospital. Rajan and his family were living in a shed on three cents of land in Neyyattinkara Pongil. The court had ordered the evacuation of the land following a complaint lodged by a neighbor alleging that Rajan had encroached on the land. According to Rajan's children, when Rajan grabbed his wife and threatened to kill themselves by pouring petrol to stop the eviction, the police officials hit the lighter which resulted in the accident.
