THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After the spread of the new genetically mutated Covid virus, the virus has so far been confirmed in 18 people who came to Kerala from the UK. Fourteen samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for testing to determine if the infection is due to the new strain. Four more samples will be sent for testing tomorrow.

The genetically mutated coronavirus found in the UK is spreading to many parts of the world. Meanwhile, the researchers said that the UK virus cannot cause more severe infection. However, it is estimated that the virus can increase the spread of the disease by up to 70 percent. With this, the number of Covid cases may rise sharply and the health sector may face a crisis. A study report had warned yesterday that the death toll would also rise.
