THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rahul Raj and Renjith Raj, children of the couple who immolated themselves in Neyyattinkara, said they accept government's offer of a house and land. The couple immolated themselves when the officials came to implement a court order and the two succumbed to the burns yesterday. However, the children demanded that they want the house in the disputed land itself. The office of the chief minister had earlier informed to provide them house and land and also take over their protection. The chief minister had asked the district collector to take immediate action following the incident.

DYFI had earlier informed that they would provide assistance for the rehabilitation of the children. The Youth Congress had also informed that they would build a house for them. Justice Antony Dominic, chairman of state human rights commission, directed the Thiruvananthapuram rural police chief to submit a detailed report on the alleged negligence on the part of the police in causing the incident.

The Human Rights Commission took action on a complaint filed by human rights activist Ashwathy Jwala. The complaint mentioned that although the court order should be enforced, the police should have prevented an ordinary citizen from committing suicide out of self-respect.
