THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police took into custody Vasantha, the neighbour of the couple who immolated themselves in Neyyattinkara. Police said she was taken into custody considering law and order issues. Minister Kadakampally Surendran after visiting the place said necessary steps will be taken.

Meantime, the government has taken over the protection of the children of the couple Rajan and Ambili. Minister Kadakampally along with K Ansalan, the MLA of the place, reached their house and informed this. Rajan had appealed against the court verdict to evict the land. The concerned were not willing to wait till the decision comes and that is what caused these incidents, the minister said.

The minister said will examine wherever a lapse has occurred and whether there is a lapse on the side of the police. Strict action will be taken in this regard. He said the government would stop any attempt to encroach the land of scheduled castes.

Kadakamapally said arrangements will be taken for further studies of the children as desired by them. The government will take necessary steps to give them a house. Action would be taken against anyone found guilty in connection with it, he added. Vasantha had asserted that she will prove that the land is hers and will not give land to anyone who showed goondaism and would give the land to somebody else.
