THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Locals in Neyyatinkara have intensified their protest over the incident in which a couple committed suicide while they were being evicted from their land. A group of people stopped the ambulance carrying the body of Ambili and demanded the authorities to put the matter of child protection in writing. Meanwhile, the Collector said that action would be taken against the policeman in the matter and the four demands raised would be brought to the notice of the Chief Minister.
The children of the deceased couple said that they have faith in the words of the collector and demanded that the body of their mother should be buried near their father. Locals protested by blocking the ambulance carrying Ambili's body for two hours, demanding the arrest of the police officer. The collector intervened in the matter following the protest of the locals. Meanwhile, Vasantha, who had lodged a complaint against deceased Rajan, was taken into police custody and shifted to another place.
The state human rights commission had ordered a detailed inquiry into the allegations of gross negligence on the part of the police officers who did not act in accordance with the circumstances in the incident in which the couple died. Justice Anthony Dominic, chairman of the Child Rights Commission, directed the Thiruvananthapuram Rural District Police Chief to submit an investigation report within four weeks.
