KOTTAYAM: The verbal spat which started in the top leadership of Congress, following the humiliating defeat in local body polls, has now got ‘updated’ to virtual brawls between workers at the local level and when it reached its peak, a senior leader slipped his leg while trying to pacify the workers. Former chief minister Oommen Chandy slipped his leg while he intervened in a virtual brawl of Congress workers, held during the meet to evaluate election defeat, with the intention to pacify them.

The event held during the Mandalam committee meeting of Congress which was convened to evaluate the local body poll results in Akalamkunnu Panchayat in Poovathilapill at Kottayam district. A section of Congress workers also demanded to remove the Mandalam president during the meeting. The other group rejected it and it led to pandemonium ultimately culminating in a fistfight between both sections.

With this, Oommen Chandy who was presiding the meeting intervened to pacify the workers. At that time, his leg slipped when it hit the platform. As he was caught by security staff and workers he didn’t fell down. Reports suggest that the senior leader has no injuries. He is currently engaged with the post-election meets to evaluate the results in local body wards of Puthupally.
