THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state assembly passed a resolution demanding centre to scrap the farm laws. The resolution was passed unanimously with the opposition supporting it.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told the assembly that the governor is bound to act on the advice of the government. The Governor cannot exercise discretionary power in convening the assembly. Thought the governor would grant permission when requested first. The chief minister explained in the assembly that he had informed that the Governor's action was not correct.
The new farm law is under the consideration of the government. The Centre must accept the real demand of the farmers. The chief minister said in the assembly that the laws should be withdrawn unanimously.
The assembly passed the resolution with a voice vote in a special session convened. Only BJP member O Rajagopal spoke against the resolution. The speaker said the session is of urgent importance. The chief minister said the new law is a great cause of concern to the farmers.
The resolution pointed that if the farmers' agitation continues, it will seriously affect Kerala. Kerala through the resolution asked centre to repeal the amendment to the Agriculture Act. If the supply of food items to the consumer state of Kerala stops, Kerala will starve. The law was passed without any consultation or seeking the opinion of farmers. The amendment is pro-corporate and anti-agriculture.
