THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet convened here today decided to offer financial aid of Rs 10 lakh to the children of the couple who immolated themselves in Neyyattinkara. Social Welfare Minister K K Shailaja informed this. A house will be constructed for the children and education of the children will be borne by social welfare department. The decision was taken as per the special directive of the chief minister.

After visiting the children today, Minister Shailaja said the government has taken over the responsibility of them.

The collector in the report submitted to the government had recommended to build a house for them. The collector had recommended to give either corporation’s flat at Kalladimugham or a house and land under the Life Mission project.

A probe has started to make clear whether there has been any lapse from the side of the police. Neyyattinkara DySP is in charge of the probe.

Meantime, DGP Lokanath Behera directed Thiruvananthapuram rural SP to submit a report at the earliest after conducting a probe. Human Rights Commission and Child Rights Commission have also voiced the same demand. Human Rights Commission has asked to submit the report in four weeks. Meantime, Child Rights Commission has demanded a report on how the police behaved to the children.
