THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police investigation report, on the death of Rajan and his wife Ambili who committed suicide in Neyyattinkara during the eviction procedure, will be submitted to the Collector and the DGP on Friday. Police officers who acted unwisely may be suspended.

Thiruvananthapuram Rural SP B Asokan, who is conducting the investigation, on Thursday recorded the statements of Rajan's eldest son Rahul, his neighbour Vasantha, who is claiming the land, and Neyyattinkara CI. The statement of the grade ASI who is undergoing treatment for burns will be recorded today.

Rahul said that he was going for work in the workshop when his father called him home saying that the police would come to evict the family. When he got home, he saw police, officers and Vasantha near the house. According to Rahul, the officers entered the house and asked the family to move out immediately. Although Rajan requested them half an hour time and informed that the stay order of the High Court will be granted soon, the police officers did not comply. Rajan poured petrol on his body in order to hold on for half an hour. However, the policeman approached and attempted to shove off the lighter which resulted in the tragedy. Rahul also informed the investigating officer that the police refused to take his parents to the hospital in a police vehicle. The two were taken to the Neyyattinkara General Hospital in a vehicle that belonged to Vasantha's goon.

Meanwhile, the police officers claimed that they were only doing their duty. The officer who snatched the lighter is also undergoing treatment for burns in the hospital. The State Human Rights Commission and the Child Rights Commission have sought a report from the Rural SP. Neyyattinkara police have registered a case against Rajan for obstructing the work of court officials and committing suicide.
