THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The crime branch will investigate the death of the couple in Neyyattinkara. DGP Lokanath Behera has released an order on it. The act is in the wake of rural SP’s investigation report that another agency should probe as allegations are against the police.

The crime branch will investigate the circumstances that led to the suicide. The Thiruvananthapuram unit will be in charge of the investigation. The case was so far investigated by Neyyattinkara DySP.

Rajan and his wife Ambili of Laksham Veedu Colony in Pongil of Athiyannoor panchayat immolated themselves and succumbed to burns a few days back. The two died while undergoing treatment at the medical college hospital. Rajan died on Sunday night and Ambili on Monday night.

The couple’s children Renjith Raj and Rahul Raj alleged that the haste in implementing the court order to evict them from their house is the reason for the death. Rajan raised suicide threat holding his wife Ambili along and poured kerosene over each other when the police reached home with the court order. Rajan was seen holding his wife in one hand and threatening police with a lighter in the other hand not to go near them. Rajan before dying had stated that he never tried to commit suicide and when the cop tried to foil the bid, the fire from the lighter caught on the couple and they suffered from severe burn injuries.
