THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state confirmed 4991 COVID-19 cases on Friday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said. Among these, 4413 persons developed the disease through contact including 425 cases without an identified source of infection. 94 persons who came from outside the state also tested positive for the virus. 59 health workers tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. 37 people, who have recently returned from the UK, tested positive for the virus. Their samples have been sent to NIV Pune for further testing.
Meanwhile, 5111 patients tested negative for the virus today. As of now, there are 65,054 active cases in the state.
The state confirmed 23 deaths due to the virus on Friday with the toll rising to 3095.

In the last 24 hours, 52,790 samples have been tested. The test positivity rate stands at 9.45.
With the addition of 2 new regions and the removal of 4, there are 456 hotspots in the state.
