THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BMS has made great strides in the trade union opinion polls of KSRTC. For the first time in 36 years, BMS was recognized. Recognition is given to the organization that gets 15 percent of the total votes cast.
At the same time, the vote share for TDF under CITU and INTUC declined. BMS, which had earlier polled only 8.31 per cent, got 18 per cent this time. Although CITU was recognized, it received only 35 percent of the vote this time compared to 49 percent last time. The TDF lost 4% of the vote this time around, down from 27% to 23%. The AITUC, another left-wing organization of the CPI, received only 9.67 per cent of the vote. The fourth organization in the referendum was not approved.
The counting took place at the Ernakulam Regional Joint Labor Commissioner's Office. 26,561 permanent employees voted. The turnout was 97.73. There were a total of 100 booths in the state. Thiruvananthapuram, the place with the highest number of voters, had 23 booths.
Seven trade unions took part in the vote. The organization that receives 51 percent of the vote will be considered a sole bargaining agent. In Thiruvananthapuram zone, 10147 out of 10349 registered to vote. 7121 out of 7305 in Kozhikode and 9574 out of 9817 in Ernakulam cast their votes.
