KOCHI: Even after the government’s nod to open the theatres with half capacity, uncertainty looms over opening theatres in the state. The film chamber has decided to initiate subsequent proceedings including film release only after talks with other organisations in the production and distribution.
President of the film chamber, K Vijayakumar has said that decision on re-opening the theatres adhering to norms will be taken after a meeting of the Chamber’s members. “As the theatres were closed for months, lakhs might have to be spent for its maintenance. The theatre owners who already suffered huge monetary loss during this period may not be in a position to incur additional financial burden for maintenance. Therefore theatres may not be opened on Tuesday,” he said.
Kerala cini exhibitors association president Poly V Joseph welcomed the government’s decision to open the theatres. He also added that additional time is required to make the theatres ready in order to run them, paying strict adherence to the regulations. FEUOK—a federation of film artists has said that final decision on theatre re-opening will be taken only after comprehensive talks with producers, distributors and theatre owners. FEUOK’s executive meet will be held on Tuesday. FEUOK’s office-bearers also said that talks with producers and theatre owners would be undertaken after the executive meet.
