THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Poet and writer Neelamperoor Madhusoodanan Nair has passed away. He was 86 years old. He has written over thirty works which includes about fifteen poetry collections. In 2000, he won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for his collection of poems 'Chamatha'. Ithile Varika, Eettillam, Chitha, Urangum Munp, Amaran, and Falitha Chinthakal are his main works. He has won the State Children's Literature Award and the Abu Dhabi Shakti Award.
He was born on March 25, 1936, in Neelamperur village in Kuttanad as the son of Madhavan Pillai and Parvathi Amma. He holds a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a master's degree in statistics. He served as a Research Officer in the Industries Department.
Madhusoodanan Nair was a member of the General Council of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi. He has translated Engels' poems into Malayalam. He also wrote songs for the movie Snehapoorvam Meera. His book Mausalaparvam won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi's first Kanakashree Award (1991), Pazhkinar won the Mulur Memorial Award (1998) and Kiliyum Mozhiyum won the State Balasahitya Award (1998). He retired as the Joint Director in Department of Industry and Commerce in Secretariat. Wife: KL Rugmini Devi. Children: M Deepukumar and M Indulekha.
