THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In addition to shifting of long-distance services from superfast to transport company K-Swift, the government is also planning to renovate the KSRTC to save it from losses. An amount of Rs 16 crore has been sanctioned for the first phase of renovation. This is in addition to the Rs 10 crore sanctioned for the repair works of 1500 damaged buses.
With the advent of 'K-Swift', KSRTC will become a corporation with 3600 buses. While the existing 27,461 employees will remain under KSRTC, a few of those employed in superclass services will be assigned to the new company as part of the work arrangement.
An online monitoring system will be introduced to make the corporation bus services more efficient. A plan will be prepared to increase the average daily revenue of each service to Rs 10,000. Special rewards are being considered for employees who contribute to the increase in income. Non-ticket revenue schemes will also be launched. Of the KSRTC buses, 300 will be converted to CNG and 400 to LNG. The engine replacement will cost an average of Rs 5 lakh per bus. The cost of five years of maintenance should also be looked after by the contracting company. The CNG filling station at Anayara will be operational soon.
