THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM has entered into crucial talks for determining candidates for the upcoming assembly polls. Along with the district committee meetings, informal talks for selecting the candidates have also begun. In certain districts, preliminary talks to transfer seats from other constituent parties of LDF has also been going on.

CPM has asked sitting MLAs to devote more time in their constituencies. Most of them were assured of seats. The party is also thinking of fielding new faces and youths in the lines of local body polls.

In the district committee meetings, apart from a member of the state secretariat who has the charge of the district, one or two senior leaders are also taking part in the talks. The secretariat member will discuss crucial aspects of deciding the candidate in the assembly constituency with the senior leaders.

After the district level talks, committees will be formed for every assembly constituency. Poll committees will be also constituted at the grass root levels. Preliminary talks have also started on giving the required seats to Kerala Congress.

The split in JDS and merger of LJD has become a headache for LDF. LJD has already raised the claim for seats including Vadakara. Sources say, similar to last time, the party will field unexpected persons as candidates who also enjoy public support. Mukesh, Veena George and Nikesh Kumar has contested as CPM’s candidates last time.
