IDUKKI: The judicial commission’s report confirmed custodial death in Nedumkandam. The commission has found that Rajkumar died of brutal torture. They have also recommended action to be taken against the police. Justice K Narayana Kurup will hand over the report to the chief minister shortly.

Within a year and a half of the judicial commission's inquiry, 73 witnesses were summoned and evidence collected in connection with the death. The commission’s report said the statements of the witnesses that he was beaten up in the SI's room of Nedumkandam station and in the rest room on the first floor are true.

Evidences were taken from the rest room of the Nedumkandam police station, SI's room at the police station, Nedumkandam taluk hospital and Rajkumar's house in Vagamon. The circumstances and facts that led to Rajkumar's arrest, custody and then death have been thoroughly examined over the past one and a half years.

The final report submitted to the government included directions on what all precautions should be taken to prevent such incidents from recurring in future.

Rajkumar died on July 21 in 2019 while remanded in Peerumedu sub jail. A re-post mortem was conducted following the intervention of the commission after post-mortem revealed many faults.
