THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Privileges and Ethics Committee may not approve the issue of infringement of rights against Finance Minister Thomas Isaac on the issue that the Comptroller and Auditor General's (CAG) report containing references against KIIFB was leaked to the media before it was tabled in the Assembly. It is for the first time in the history of the state, a minister had to appear before an ethics committee.
There are indications that the Assembly Privileges Committee chaired by Pradeep Kumar will move towards the conclusion that there has been no violation of rights.
The Kurien Committee ruled that the CAG report on the coalfield auction becomes the property of Parliament only if it was presented to Parliament. The issue of infringement does not arise because it is not under the jurisdiction of Parliament.
Congress leader V.D Satheesan had issued a notice against Isaac. As this is the first event in the history of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, the House committee that met yesterday came to the conclusion that it should examine the procedures, including in Parliament. The committee will take a final decision on the 13th. The move is to report to this House itself.
After hearing Satheesan's complaint, the Speaker left the complaint to the House Committee. The committee questioned Satheesan and Thomas Isaac.
