THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The customs has got legal advice to question Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan in the dollar smuggling case. The Assistant Solicitor General P Vijayakumar has given legal advice that he can be questioned as per Customs Act. He is likely to be questioned after the assembly session. The assistant solicitor general has advised to avoid questioning him during the assembly session.

The customs had the other day questioned Speaker’s assistant private secretary K Ayyappan. The interrogation extends to the Speaker based on the statements of Swapna Suresh and P S Sarith, accused in the gold smuggling case. The customs registered a case in dollar smuggling connecting it with the gold smuggling case. Swapna and Sarith had stated that the bag containing dollar was carried to the consulate as demanded by the speaker. The two had levelled serious allegations against the speaker in their statements to the magistrate.

However, the Speaker had earlier mentioned that he is ready to end his political career if corruption against him is proved.
