THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The industrial corridor projects proposed by the central government for industrial development will be launched soon. The projects will be implemented in the area that has facilities such as highways, ports and railway.

In Kerala, land acquisition for the Kochi-Bengaluru project will be done with the financial assistance of the Kerala Industrial Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The project consists of nine mega industrial clusters such as food industry, light engineering industry, diamond jewellery, plastic, e-waste, solid waste recycling, oil & gas, electronics, IT, logistics and automotive clusters. With the completion of the project, the Kochi-Palakkad region will become a major manufacturing hub in South India. There will be thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities.

KIIFB has sanctioned an industrial infrastructure development project worth Rs 12710 crore for Kannur and Palakkad. 470 acres of land will be acquired in Palakkad Kannambra for KBIC's project. In the first phase, KIIFB will hand over Rs 346 crore to Kinfra for the acquisition of 292.89 acres. The amount will be handed over today at 12 noon in the presence of the Chief Minister. KIFB has also approved the acquisition of 1351 acres of land in Ozhalappathi and Puthussery in Palakkad district at a cost of Rs 1038 crore for the KBIC project.
