PUTHUKKAD: A man, who swindled Rs 12.5 lakh from a person by impersonating as Supreme Court Judge, was arrested in Puthukkad on Saturday. The arrested has been identified as Kannur Chirakkal native Jigeesh.


Jigeesh, who studied electronics and telecommunication courses at an ITC in Kannur after dropping out from school, has been booked for several cheating cases at various stations.

Jigeesh used to live in rented accommodation in different places. He was arrested by the police team led by Puthukkad CI TN Unnikrishnan after receiving information that a suspicious person was staying in a rented house in the Annamanada area.

According to the police, Jigeesh had introduced himself as a Supreme Court judge to a Paliyekkara native who was involved in a case in which a man died due to a crane accident. Posing as the judge, Jigeesh told the man that he would dismiss the case in return for a bribe of Rs 12.5 lakh. After receiving the money, Jigeesh began to avoid the man's call which eventually forced the latter to file a police complaint.

Police also said that Jigeesh ran a dance troupe for 4 years and had worked as a reporter for a local channel.
