THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Many big shots in CPM who faced humiliating defeats in the recently held Lok Sabha polls, have finally made it to the draft list of candidates for the assembly polls. The leadership also share the opinion that as the defeat in Lok Sabha polls were due to political reasons most of these leaders should be considered for the assembly polls.
Sources say V P Sanu who contested against Muslim League leader P K Kunhalikutty in the Lok Sabha polls, could contest from any assembly constituency in the district. Leaders have also opined to consider K P Satheesh Chandran who got defeated in Kasargod in the pro-UDF waves which swept across the state. As the district secretary of Kasargod M V Balakrishnan is gearing up to contest in the assembly elections, the question where to field Satheesh Chandran is a big question before the party leadership.
Chances to field V N Vasavan, who played a pivotal role to bring Jose K Mani to the LDF camp, from Ettumanoor, will depend upon if the party gets another chance for incumbent MLA Suresh Kurup to contest again. A K Sambath who got defeated in Attingal last time might get a chance to contest from Thiruvananthapuram.
K N Balagopal’s name is being heard from many constituencies in the Kollam district. Another member of the state secretariat, P Rajeev might contest from Kalamassery. P K Biju and M B Rajesh who lost in the traditional strongholds of Palakkad and Aalathoor respectively might contest from Malampuzha and Thrithala.
Former Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan who was removed from the post to contest from Vadakara was defeated in the polls and have no charges as of now. If some leaders of Kannur are removed from candidature list for getting multiple terms, then Jayarajan might be considered for candidature. There are only fewer chances for P K Sreemathi and K K Shylaja to come together in the assembly. If Pinarayi Vijayan includes P K Sreemathi in his parliamentary team, then Shylaja might get a second term.
