THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With incumbent KPCC president Mullapallay Ramachandran to enter into the poll arena as he had decided to contest in the assembly polls, the high command is thinking to appoint senior Congress leader K Sudhakaran as temporary president of the KPCC. Sudhakaran will be declared as KPCC president once the final list of candidates is out. Sources say that Sudhakaran has the full support of senior Congress leader A K Anthony. Congress leadership thinks that Sudhakaran’s presence will benefit the party and infuse a renewed sense of enthusiasm among the party workers.
Sudhakaran has also made it clear that he is willing to take up the post of party president. High command thinks that by appointing Sudhakran to the top post, the organisational weakness of the party which was witnessed in the local body polls could be fixed. Meanwhile, KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran has expressed willingness to contest from Kozhikode or Wayanad although he is interested to contest from Kalpetta.
The Congress leadership holds the opinion that Mullapally’s candidature from Northern Kerala will benefit the party although his tenure as KPCC president witnessed many controversies. He was also successful in presenting the group rivalry before the high command. Another conducive factor for him was creating a favourable atmosphere for internal polls by putting an end to the practice of holding multiple posts by DCC presidents. However, the Muslim League has said that they are not against Mullapally’s candidature but Kalpetta seat belongs to them.
