KOCHI: The Kerala High Court accepted Father Thomas Kottoor’s plea against the double life sentence of Thiruvananthapuram CBI Court in the Abhaya case. The high court served notice to the CBI on the plea. The court will consider Kottoor’s plea later. It is heard that Father Kottoor will file a plea soon seeking bail till his plea is considered and settled. Sister Sephy will also file a plea in the coming days.

Father Thomas Kottoor and Sister Sephy moved the high court stating that the trial in the case was not fair. The Thiruvananthapuram CBI court found the first accused Thomas Kottoor and third accused Sister Sephy guilty after 28 years long of legal proceedings. Charges of various offenses including murder were imposed on them.

In the plea, Father Thomas Kottoor mentioned that the statements of many including Adakka Raju who gave crucial testimony in the case, were not reliable at all. The CBI awarded double life imprisonment to Father Kottoor and life imprisonment to Sister Sephy on December 23.
