THRISSUR: The consumer court has ordered the railways to pay Rs 5,000 as compensation to the passenger who got fever after getting drenched in rain during a train journey. The Thrissur Consumer Court issued the order on a complaint filed by PO Sebastian of Parapur Puthur House, who complained that rainwater fell on the seat and body due to the shutters of the train window being broken and that it was due to the irresponsibility of the Railways.
The journey was from Thrissur to Thiruvananthapuram on June 29, 2013 at 8:30 am in the reservation compartment of Jan Shatabdi. The verdict was delivered in September 2019. A copy of the verdict was received last Thursday. Sebastian was the superintendent of St. Thomas College and was the state president of the Kerala Private College Ministerial Staff Federation, an organization of non-teachers.
The railways are trying to take further action. Sebastian is preparing to file an application to the Railways seeking enforcement of the court order. His demand is that compensation be recovered from the officials.
