KOCHI: Reports suggests that customs will soon begin interrogation on Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan. The decision was taken as the budget session of the assembly was concluded on Friday. The department is on the final phase of preparing the notice to summon the speaker. The notice is being prepared after getting three kinds of legal advice. Strong legal advice was sought this time in the wake of the conflicts between the assembly secretary and customs over the notice sent to the speaker’s additional private secretary. The additional solicitor general has said there are no legal barriers for customs to interrogate the speaker if the questioning is done according to the procedure established by law. Speaker has also made it clear that he won’t hinder the probe in any manner.

When the customs summoned speaker’s additional private secretary to interrogate him in connection with the dollar transfer case, assembly secretary sent a letter to the department asking them to take prior permission to question him and the department responded fiercely to the letter.

The additional private secretary appeared for questioning after the war over letters.

Customs has found that dollars were transferred on a large scale from Kerala to abroad using the diplomatic channel of UAE consulate. The chief accused in the case Swapna Suesh and P S Sarith has testified against the speaker on the case.
