THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Insurance Regulatory Authority of India(IRDAI) has come up with a new move to rob vehicle owners and thereby make profits for insurance companies. The move seeks to amend the law so that the vehicle owners violating the traffic rules will be forced to pay a higher insurance premium. The committee appointed for this purpose prepared a draft report.
The strategy is to increase the premium amount as the points increase after assigning points for each violation. The committee recommends that the premium be determined on the basis of the severity of the traffic offences committed by the vehicle owner in the amount of the premium for damage to the vehicle, third party insurance and compulsory personal accident insurance. The owner will be held responsible even if the driver violates the law. The Central Department of Motor Vehicles had recently increased its fines tenfold for traffic offences.
