THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Fuel monitoring system will be implemented to make the diesel supply in KSRTC scientific. The system will be implemented in collaboration with the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). With the implementation of the system, the head office will receive information such as how much fuel has been filled in a bus and how much diesel is left in the tank at the pump at each depot.

In the first part of the 'No Bell No Break' series published on the Kerala Kaumudi editorial page about KSRTC, the diesel pilferage in KSRTC was described. Within 20 days of the publication of the first part, the Transport Department and top KSRTC officials discussed ways to curb diesel pilfering. This was followed by discussions with IOC officials. The new system will be set up by the IOC. The first step will be to install fuel monitoring systems at 64 depots.

It is estimated that diesel pilferage of Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore a month took place just before the lockdown. GPS system will be installed on every bus to accurately track the running of the bus. The entire office system will be computerized. The transport department has also decided to introduce a new software-based accounting system.
