THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Five persons were killed after a car collided with a mini lorry at Thottakkad near Kallambalam in Thiruvananthapuram.
Sudheesh (25), son of Surendran Pillai and Pushpalatha, Rajeev (33), son of Ramachandran of Rajesh Bhavan in Chirakkara Idavattam, Arun(30), son of Madhusoodhanan and Sudharmini of Arun Nivas in Chirakkara, Suryodaya Kumar (28), son of late Udayakumar and Sudharma of Udaya Bhavan in Chirakkara Thazham and Vishnu (29), son of Aravindakshan Jyotsyan and Vimala have been identified as the deceased. The lorry driver Christudas (55), a native of Tamil Nadu, was taken into custody by the Kallambalam police.
Three died at the scene and two were on their way to the hospital. The accident happened around 10.30 pm on Tuesday. A car coming from Kallambalam to Thiruvananthapuram collided with a fish lorry. It is alleged that the lorry which came in the wrong direction caused the accident. The car caught fire in the crash which made the rescuers anxious. Police and locals pulled out some from the car as smoke was rising from inside the car's bonnet. The rest were taken out by dozing off the fire and ripping off car parts.
