KOCHI: The court remanded M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to the chief minister, in the case registered by the customs for smuggling dollar abroad. He has been remanded till February 9. He was produced in the court via video conference.
Meantime, Sivasankar has filed a bail plea in the case. The court will consider the bail next Monday. Sivasankar was granted bail in the gold smuggling case of the customs and money laundering case of ED and if he gets bail in the dollar smuggling case, he will be released from jail. The customs finding is that he has a role in smuggling dollars of of 1.5 core. The customs had last week registered his arrest in the dollar smuggling case. The action was with the permission of the court.
The decisive proceedings of the customs is in the case of smuggling dollar abroad by Khalid, a former chief account officer of the UAE consulate. The customs alleged that Sivsankar has a role in smuggling Rs 1.5 crore dollars. The customs argued that there is strong evidence against him.
