THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leaders of the UDF allies, including PJ Joseph, made it clear in the initial discussion that they would not compromise on the division of seats. On the other hand, Congress told the leaders that everyone will have to make some compromises on the number of seats as victory in each seat will be crucial in the upcoming elections. It also directed that details of the discussion should not be shared with the media.
With two factions leaving the front, the UDF allies generally demanded that the remaining seats should be equally divided among them. PJ Joseph stood firm on his demand that he wants 15 seats. While turning down Attingal and Kaypamangalam constituencies, RSP demanded that they should be allotted 7 seats instead of 5. The Kerala Congress-Jacob faction demanded three more seats. The CMP demanded the three seats it contested in 2011. In 2016, only one seat was approved due to the split in the party.
The meeting was held secretly at Ramesh Chennithala's residence at Vazhuthacaud on Thursday. Oommen Chandy and MM Hasan were also present.
