THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary A Vijayaraghavan has said that the continuation of the Congress alliance with politics based on religion will not benefit the state. Vijayaraghavan opined that Congress should not create another sectarian divide instead of opposing the Hindutva forces as they try to create a politics of hatred and animosity in the country. The CPM has a firm secular stance on this issue.
The CPM took a strong stand on the revocation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir and the CAA. A case was filed in the Supreme Court on the Kashmir issue. The Prime Minister was criticized for laying the foundation stone of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The Government of Kerala tried to unite all sections against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Vijayaraghavan accused the Jamaat-e-Islami of opposing it and calling the CPM communalists.
Congress leader Kamal Nath laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Ayodhya temple. In Puducherry, a group of Congress leaders joined the BJP. In the local body elections in Kerala, the Congress voted for the BJP in several panchayats.
The Jamaat-e-Islami is not an organization recognized by the vast majority of Muslims. They are allied with the Congress. In Kerala, the Congress has rejected the position that there should be no contact with them at the national level. When Oommen Chandy led the Congress, a weak candidate was fielded which made O Rajagopal the winner. As a continuation of this, Congress allied with the BJP and Muslim fundamentalists in this local body election. Vijayaraghavan pointed out that the Congress cannot explain its stance.
