THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Oommen Chandy responds over rumours that he will contest from Thiruvananthapuram leaving his traditional stronghold of Puthupally. He said that his life is dissolved in Puthupally and there won’t be any change in that until the end of his life. He also issued a press statement seeking to end such wrong and baseless news.

Earlier reports have surfaced which said that Oommen Chandy might contest from Thiruvananthapuram instead of his stronghold—Puthupally. A section of Congress leaders also held the opinion that if the former chief minister is fielded in Thiruvananthapuram then it could benefit the party’s poll prospects in southern Kerala. When the party was also making moves to retain Puthupally seat by fielding Chandy Oommen, his son, Oommen Chandy has harshly responded against the proposal, putting an end to plans to shift him to Thiruvananthapuram.

A section of Congress workers and leaders demand that Oommen Chandy must be fielded in any of the following seats in Thiruvananthapuram—Nemom, Thiruvananthapuram central and Vattiyoorkavu. There is a popular belief in the party that his presence in southern Kerala could also put a bar on BJP’s rise in this assembly polls.

Meanwhile, KPCC chief Mullapally Ramachandran said that Oommen Chandy can win from any assembly seat in Kerala. Sources say he is interested to field Chandy in Nemom constituency.
