THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Today marks one year since the first case of Covid 19 was reported in Kerala. Marking the past one year, health minister K K Shylaja has explained in detail the reasons for the rapid spread of the disease in the state, the preventive measures taken by the government and the challenges faced by the government to contain the pandemic. Kerala is the most densely populated state in the country. 860 persons per square meter is the density of population of Kerala. Whereas the same for India is 430 persons. The population of the elderly is very high in Kerala. With 14 per cent of diabetes patients, and a significant number still grappling under various lifestyle diseases, make the state extremely vulnerable to the pandemic.
