PAYYANNUR (KANNUR): With the North Indian officers of the Ezhimala Naval Academy on one side and migrant labourers on the other, the police officials in Payyanur, who don't know Hindi, have decided to learn the language. Like good children, now they are learning to write and speak Hindi.

As in the movie "Gajakesariyogam" starring Innocent and Mukesh, the police will now say, 'If mem is the noun ...!'

Payyannur police receive phone calls from the Naval Academy on most days. Partial knowledge of Hindi words is not enough. Similar is the situation with migrant labourers. The police go around not knowing what to say or what to say in return to their queries.

As there were no other alternatives, the police unanimously decided to learn Hindi.

In order to find a teacher, they made a phone call to Payyanur College and said, "Sir, we are from the police station. We need to study Hindi". Though amazed at first, the teachers agreed. The classroom is the Janamaithri Hall at the station. Police students 60. Class two days a week. Attendance is one hundred percent.
